Both Budde aircraft were put togther and running by Friday afternoon, and neither experienced any trouble the whole weekend. Competed in the International Formula 1 San Diego event.     Jim Harris and crew needed something to keep them busy this winter until spraying resumed, so they built a new wing for Race 25. Ken Stockbarger designed the wing, which really altered the aircrafts appearance. Many people have felt a new wing was all that was needed to move this aircraft near the top. Crewing for Jim were Jack Garcia and Ida Harris. Competed in the International Formula 1 San Diego event. The primary pilot was James Harris. Raced in Heat 1B. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 211.416 mph. Raced in Heat 2C. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 220.035 mph. Raced in the Championship race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 204.557 mph.

    Errol Johnstad and crew brought Race 32 over from Phoenix as a last minute replacement for the newly acquired Lucy P, which encountered some problems. Spring Fever had not been touched since Reno, so i t did not perform as well as usual. The *For Sale* sign was still in place. Competed in the International Formula 1 San Diego event.     Kathy Gray is the new owner of Pogo, and San Diego was to be her first race. Kathy is a DC-3 p ilo t for SALAIR, a cargo hauler. She also has lots of experience in a variety of aircraft, and is a natural for air racing. She already has logged several hours in Race 87, including a ferry flight from Florida to California when she bought the aircraft from Cave Garber. Pogo is the original Owl racer designed by the late George CW1. Competed in the International Formula 1 San Diego event. The primary pilot was Katherine Gray from Simi Valley, CA. Raced in Heat 1A. Finished in 5th place with an average speed of 191.256 mph. Raced in Heat 2B. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 200.970 mph. Raced in the Consolation race. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 195.259 mph.
