    Notes: Larry Bell believe that a thriving market for personal helicopters would exist after World War II. He was also aware his firm needed to survive thistransition. This machine proved that a practical personal helicopter was feasible; moreover, it led directly to the timeless Bell Model 47.

    Notes: The - Spirit of Kittyhawk - was the prototype for the B-8M. Its name came from matching the speed, duration and distance of the Wright Brothers first powered flights for a 60th anniversary celebration at Kittyhawk, NC.

    Notes: While a technical success as a flying car, the Airphibian did not become a marketable design due to the inherent compromises of air and car technologies and financial difficulties. A former company officer donated the Airphibian in 1960 and Robert Fulton III restored it in 1998.

    Notes: This particular helicopter has had a 57-year career flying, from 1947 to 2004, the longest of any helicopter in history. Among the flights was a duration record - more than 50 hours hovering! Its truly a beautiful machine.
