Photos of roadside warbirds and museum collections are most welcome. Photos of aircraft as they are currently displayed are great, but photos of airframes in previous markings, with past owners or during a restoration are fantastic as well. You can help document the history of airframes with photos!

Photo Date: Circa 21 November 1993

Date Uploaded: 17 February 2025
Airframe: North American CT-39A Sabreliner, s/n 60-3478 USAF, c/n 265-6
Notes: NT-39A aircraft tail number 60-3478 was the test bed chosen to execute a Department of Defense (DOD) directive to develop en-route and instrument approach-to-landing concepts and procedures using a Global Positioning System (GPS) Advanced Avionics Test System on a specially modified NT39A aircraft. The aircraft modification was performed at the Naval Air Development Center (NADC) Warminster,PA. Maintenance
of all systems was performed by the 12th Aircraft Maintenance Organization. The organization tasked by the USAF to perform this test was the Instrument Flight Center (IFC) at Randolph AFB, Texas during the years 1991-1995. This included any research and development (R and D) taskings from system engineering, contractor representatives, and the 46th Test Group, Holloman AFB, NM. This was the first Department of Defense aircraft that could fly in the National Airspace System (NAS) completely unaided by any conventional, ground-based navigational aid.
