    Photographer: Emil Strasser
Notes: This is Chuck Tuckers easter egg colored P-63 Kingcobra at the 1949 Cleveland Air Races. He qualified at 393 MPH which placed him in the Thompson Trophy Race. He flew the airplane to 3rd place in the Sohio Trophy race at a speed of 381 MPH. He would place 5th in the Thompson Trophy with a speed of 378 MPH. My good friend the late Ollie Aldrich interviewed Chuck in the late 1980s where he discussed what he did to this airplane in 1949. The late Bruce Dey published this interview in his Air Racing newsletter. Somewhere I have a copy and it is worth the read if you can find it. Emil Strasser photo.

    1949

    Photographer: Harold G. Martin
Notes: A beautiful image by Harold G. Martin of Chuck Tuckers P=63 that he flew in the 1949 Cleveland Air Races. In later years Chuck would admit that he went to far with his wing clip on No. 28. He was proud of what he achieved in 1949 in the lilac colored No. 30.

    1949

    Photographer: Keith Sorensen
Notes: Not the best photo but post-war color photos are hard to come by. I have been told that this photo was taken by Keith Sorensen in 1949. It is not in 35mm but a format that is I believe half the size of 35mm. Chuck Tucker was very proud of what he accomplished with his P-63 at Cleveland in 1949. He qualified for the Thompson and finished in 5th position in the last running of the Cleveland Air Races in the post-war, unlimited class era.

    1949

    Photographer: Jim Pyle
Notes: For 1949 Chuck Tucker would only appear with his Number 30 P-63 having sold Number 28 to Russ Hosler. Careful attention to detail with sealing leaks in inducting ducting resulted in a best ever qualifying for a P-63 in the post-war National Air Races.
