    Event

    Constructed as a P.1A by Short Bros and Harland at Sydenham, Belfast.
    Built as sole example of its variant. This aircraft was used to find the optimum format for the planned English Electric P.1 interceptor, which became the Lightning supersonic fighter.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Air Force with s/n WG768.

    Transported by ship. Delivered to AAEE, Boscombe Down.
    Moved from Belfast by Sea then by road to Boscome Down.

    2 December 1952

    First flight.
    Flown at Boscombe Down.

    5 September 1953

    Made its first public appearance at the S.B.A.C show at Farnborough.

    Circa 1968

    Withdrawn from use.
    Replaced by a Lightning T.4.

    7 March 1968

    Ferry flight. Delivered to RAF Finningley, Yorks.
    Moved to Finningley for storage on behalf of the RAF Museum. and given RAF Maintenance serial 8005M.
