Served initially in Europe with the 170th and wearing a similar bare aluminum finish to what she wears today, 51-9495 formed part of the group of Special Delivery Squadrons that stood on 24hr alert for nuclear strike missions on Soviet or Warsaw Pact targets through 1962. Returned stateside and spending its remaining years flying out of Capital Airport, 51-9495 was eventually painted in Vietnam War-era camouflage markings as the 170th trained pilots for deployment to Southeast Asia.
