    From Unknown to September 1957

    Constructed as an U-2A by Lockheed at Oildale, California.

    September 1957

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 56-6716.
    It was delivered in Hard Nose configuration (Air sampling) for the HASP (High Altitude Air Sampling Project).

    September 1957

    To North Base, Edwards AFB, CA.

    From 1958 to 1960

    Deployed to Argentina.

    15 March 1960

    Damaged.
    Capt. Roger Cooper and 6716 were undamaged in a deadstick landing on frozen lake at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada.

    By September 1965

    Base of operations changed.
    Takhli RTAFB, Thailand.

    December 1965

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Republic of China Air Force.
    From 1961 to 1974, ROCAF U-2s had flown 220 operational missions under the code-name Project Razor. Penetrating flights ended in 1968, but operations continued until the U-2s were withdrawn back to the USA.

    1971

    Transferred to Strategic Air Command.

    May 1980

    Permanently withdrawn from use.
