    Constructed as a XF-90.
    Ordered as XP-90, but in June 1948 the designation was changed to XF-90

    Circa 1950

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n 46-0688.

    1950

    Transferred to Edwards AFB, CA.

    March 1950

    First flight.
    Took place at Edwards AFB, CA.

    1950

    Converted to a XF-90A.
    Installation of two new, more powerful engines; first USAF jet to have afterburners.

    17 May 1950

    First Lockheed aircraft to exceed the speed of sound. Continued in use as chase plane at Edwards AFB, CA.

    November 1952

    Destroyed.
    Destroyed in nuclear tests at Frenchmans flat test range in Nevada. Was subjected to three nuclear bombs.

    2003

    Recovered.

    2003

    To National Museum of the United States Air Force, Wright Field, Dayton, OH.
    Hulk recovered by NMUSAF. Stored in restoration hangar at Wright Field, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.

    Restoration started.
    The museum plans to display the XF-90 in its damaged, mostly unrestored condition, to demonstrate the effects of nuclear weaponry.
