    Constructed as a C-47A-85-DL by Douglas at Long Beach, California, USA.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n 43-15575.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Netherlands East Indies Air Fo with s/n DT-971.

    The KNIL operated the aircraft from the Dutch East Indies to Australia - VH-REY, the radio callsign, was painted on the aircraft.

    1947

    To KLM with new c/r PK-REY.
    Based in the Dutch East Indies.

    Leased to Trans Nusantara Airways.
    Markings changed to: Transna
    Used on a contract for the Burmah Oil Co - carrying oil drilling workers between Timor, Bali and Broome.

    Damaged.
    Ran off the runway at Broome Airprt, WA during a monsoonal rain storm and was abandoned.

    Circa 1977

    After cosmetic repairs, the aircraft was used as a Tourist Bureau on the side of the road into the town, of Broome painted in an Ansett color scheme, and given the spurious registration of VN-BME.

    From 1977 to 1995

    Aircraft condition steadily deteriorated.

    Transported by ground.
    The aircraft bought by the Western Australian Museum of Aviation and the aircraft was transported to Jandakot Airport in Perth ; here it was painted in the drab USAAF camouflage paintscheme. Unfortunately, the plans for the museum were never fully realized.

    To Peter Hanbury of, Sixth Avenue, Armadale, W. A keeping c/r PK-GDC.

    May 2003

    Transported by ground.
    The aircraft was dismantled in Perth and trucked to the property of Jeff Green at Armadale, W.A. - Here it was put in the garden of the new owner, serving as a spare bedroom and highlighting gardenparties.
