    Constructed as a B18S.
    The last civil delivery prior to all Beech 18 production being to military orders for the duration of WWII.

    18 December 1940

    To Evening News Publishing Co, Dayton OH with new c/r NC1040.

    20 February 1942

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 09771 as a JRB-2.
    Impressed.

    9 March 1942

    To Defense Supplies Corporation, Washington, DC with new c/r N1040.

    11 August 1942

    Civil registration, N1040, cancelled.

    1942

    Transferred to USMC Commanding General, Quantico VA.

    From 1942 to 1945

    Served as a utility plane with Marine Corps units at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Quantico, Virginia, and Naval Air Station (NAS) San Diego, California, including Marine Aircraft Groups (MAG) 15 and 35.

    From 1945 to 1948

    Following World War II it flew at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, NAS Alameda, California, and NAS Anacostia, D.C, placed in storage in 1948.

    1950

    Transferred to MCAS Cherry Point, NC.

    May 1953

    Remanufactured as a SNB-5P.
    New construction number, N975, assigned to the airframe.

    From 1953 to 1972

    Served at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, NAS Glenview, Illinois, NAS Pensacola, Florida, and NAS Atlanta, Georgia.

    1962

    Redesignated as RC-45J.

    To Naval Air Technical Training Unit, NAS Pensacola, FL.

    29 June 1972

    To National Naval Aviation Museum, NAS Pensacola, Pensacola, FL.
