    Constructed as a Spitfire XVI by Vickers-Armstrong at Castle Bromwich.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Air Force with s/n SM411.

    November 1944

    Transferred to No. 45 Maintenance Unit, RAF Kinloss, Scotland.

    Transferred to No. 83 Group Support Unit, Westhampnett, England.

    December 1944

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Canadian Air Force with s/n SM411.

    From December 1944 to June 1945

    Transferred to No. 421 Squadron RCAF.
    Operated with markings: AU-E

    1 May 1945

    F/O Edmund H. Mann while piloting this aircraft shoot down a Fw 190 north of Schwerin, Germany. Victory shared with 2 other pilots from the squadron, 1/3 of kill was acknowledged to each.

    After June 1945

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Air Force with s/n SM411.

    July 1945

    Transferred to No. 83 Group Support Unit, Dunsfold, England.

    From September 1945 to April 1951

    Assigned to No. 29 Maintenance Unit, RAF High Ercall, England for storage.

    April 1951

    Transferred to No. 102 Flying Refresher School.

    30 June 1951

    Transferred to No. 103 Flying Refresher School, RAF Full Sutton, England.

    From October 1951 to October 1953

    Assigned to No. 9 Maintenance Unit, RAF Cosford, England for storage.

    October 1953

    Transferred to No. 3 Civilian Anti Aircraft Co-Operation Unit, Exeter, England.
    Received code letter D.

    May 1954

    Transferred to No. 9 Maintenance Unit, RAF Cosford, England.

    December 1954

    Struck off Strength/Charge from the Royal Air Force.

    From August 1955 to 1967

    Placed on display with RAF Wattisham, England.
    As a gate guard. Maintenance serial 7242M was assigned, not painted on the aircraft.

    1966

    Markings Applied: 4M-D
    Camouflage color scheme.

    1967

    Leased to Spitfire Productions Ltd.
    To be used in film The Battle of Britain.

    By November 1967

    Repaired.
    Restored to taxiing condition by the Simpsons Aeroservices Ltd at RAF Henlow, England. Engine fitted from Spitfire Mk.XVI s/n SL574.

    Markings Applied: AI-A, N3310
    For film purposes.

    May 1968

    Damaged.
    During making of the film, it tipped onto its nose while taxiing at North Weald, England. Little damage was sustained.

    11 August 1968

    Damaged.
    During making of the film, it tipped onto its nose while taxiing at Duxford, England. Propeller was damaged.

    Circa November 1968

    Returned from lease.
    Restored to display condition at RAF Henlow, England.

    February 1970

    To No. 71 Maintenance Unit, RAF Bicester, England.
    Prepared for use as a travelling exhibit for use by the RAF Exhibitions Section on recruiting and display work.

    February 1970

    Markings Applied: AU-Y, SM411
    Back then wartime code letters were forgotten so presumable AU-Y was applied instead of the original AU-E.

    From 1970 to Circa 1976

    Used as travelling display, exhibited around United Kingdom.
