    28 September 2004

During an air-to-air tracking test mission carrying two external tanks, the aircraft crossed the wake of the F-16 target aircraft. This caused an unexpected pitch oscillation rapidly exceeding the g-force and angle of attack limits. G-force limit of 7.3 but experienced 11.7. On board system overrode pilot input and brought the aircraft under control. Flight software was found to be the problems. Repairs were estimated to cost $3.6 million so the aircraft was written off and relegated to duty as a GIA.
