Johnny Seay was the pilot of the aircraft when it crashed - In 2015 we exchanged messages about what happened to the airframe after the crash - the reply was - This is the crash of N59085 July 11, 1983. I survived and walked away from it. I did not walk far, but walked. Two weeks in hospital and in a month was back flying. There was nothing left of the Stearman but the data plate and landing gear and a few fittings. I sold those to a man who was building up a Stearman and need the data plate and paper work.The inference here is that if it was not the airframe involved in the crash that was re-built - and only the data plate was re-used -then the aircraft subsequently restored from this point may have unknown origins. |
