On patrol over South China Sea at 22,000 ft Mid-air collision with Peoples Republic of China Shenyang F-8-II Finback fighter serial 81192 which crashed, killing the pilot. Made emergency landing at Lingshui Air Base, Hainan Island, China and 24 crewmembers were detained. |

Aircraft was dis-assembled and returned to US Navy inside two An 124 Ruslan transports. |

Rebuilt by Lockheed Martin at Marietta, Georgia using parts of NP-3D 150525 and the wings of P-3B 153453. |
