    Transferred to 52nd Tactical Fighter Wing, Spangdahlem AB, FGR.
    Operated with markings: SP

    Transferred to 50th Tactical Fighter Wing, Hahn AB, FGR.

    By 1981

    Transferred to 4th Tactical Fighter Wing, Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC.
    Operated with markings: SJ

    By 1982

    Transferred to 335th TFS, 4th TFW, Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC.
    Operated with markings: SJ
    Light green tail stripe.

    By September 1983

    Transferred to 334th TFS, 4th TFW, Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC.
    Operated with markings: SJ
    Blue tail stripe.

    5 September 1983

    Involved in an incident.
    Developed engine problem but was able to link to a KC-135 and the boom operator finally was able to get a solid connection on the F-4E refueling receptacle after the third attempt at an altitude of 1600 feet above the Atlantic. The tanker was able to tow the crippled F-4E far enough so it could land at Gander, Newfoundland, in Canada.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n AF298 as a QF-4E.

    By October 2006

    Transferred to Tyndall AFB, FL.

    By 2014

    Transferred to Det. 1, 82nd ATS, 53rd WEG, Holloman AFB, NM.

    7 February 2014

    Destroyed in a crash.
    Lost on unmanned flight due to loss of control during landing approach to Holloman AFB and crashed in White Sands National Park about 5 mi SW of Holloman. Crash was highly publicized due to the crash occuring in a National Park.
