The engine failed or malfunctioned during the takeoff run. Experienced a controlled collision with terrain on touch down. The factors included; high atmospheric temperatures and congested traffic pattern. There was complete power loss in the failure of one engine...

    Appeared at the U. S. Cup Race, but did not qualify. The primary pilot was Larry H Havens. Blew the engine during qualifying and there was not enough time to repair.

    From 21 September 1971 to 26 September 1971

    Raced as #90, named CRAZY HORSE CAMPGROUNDS.
    Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Larry H Havens. Qualified in 11th place with an average speed of 351.39 mph. Raced in Heat B. Finished in 5th place with an average speed of 369.68 mph. Raced in the Reserve race. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 352.17 mph.

    Notes: 1971 would see the return of the P-63 Kingcobra to competition around the pylons. Larry Havens would pilot this highly modified P-63 at the 1971 Reno Air Races. Sadly this would be the only time this highly modified racer would be seen in competition as it was lost on a test flight prior to the 1972 Reno Air Races.

The engine failed or malfunctioned while cruising. Experienced an uncontrolled collision with terrain in an uncontrolled descent. The factors included; came to rest in water. There was complete power loss in the failure of one engine. Report remarks include: Engine quit over ocean. Pilot bailed out ok...

    Parts from the wreck were used in the restoration of USAAF s/n 43-11117, which also adopted the ID of this airframe. It is assumed nothing remained of this airframe and it essentially ceased to exist.
