    Constructed as a XAJ-1.
Originally up for DOD sale during June 1980 at Norfolk NAS, however no bids. Savage then broken up by Navy, removed to Camp Allen. Sold DOD sale October 1981 to Peck Iron And Metal Co., Portsmouth, Viginia.

Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 121460.

Markings Applied: NAEC marked on fuselage aft section

Notes: This was the first prototype North American XAJ-1 Savage. It was photographed at NAS Norfolk on 05 October 1977 in its last markings from Naval Aviation Engineering Command (NAEC).Unfortunately, this aircraft was offered up for sale but there were no bidders and the Navy scrapped it in 1980. What a shame. Now there is only one AJ Savage remaining (an AJ-2, 130418) and it is displayed at the National Museum of Naval Aviation at Pensacola Florida.
