    What is Next for Research
The Locator search engine is separate from the database, and it mearly asks the database questions so search results may be presented. New features can be added to the search engine, but it is the data in the database which must be present for the Locator to be of any value. The presence, or lack of, that data is indicated by the title "Region Coverage" at the top of each region in the search results list. This indicator also showS how well the region has been researched. A value of "Good" indicates a good effort has be made to find any mentions of, and the corresponding locations, of various aircraft displayed in a region. This effort may include data mining and requesting assistance from people on discussion boards. A value of "Needs Improvement" means that limited research effort has for that region has been expended and the coverage reliability may be poor. Regions are researched in turn and the coverage value adjusted when the research is complete. Although a region may receive an evaluation of Good, the improvment of the data and the research is a continual process.

January 2009: Winter is here, and Locator database research is in high gear. I am still working through a huge amount of data from sources on the web and individual contributors which provide lat and lon data for the locations. It is a nice problem to have. It is keeping me from integrating much of the information from Andy Mardens books (see the Credits page), but I will get to Andy's data, hopefully within the month.

The following regions will be attended to in the comming months
    (no particular order)...

  • A review of the United States, likely in alphabetical order
  • Europe starting with Germany, Belgium, France and Holland
  • United Kingdom starting with England

What is Next for Feature Improvements
There are a number of ideas for new and improved features in the Locator, it will just take time and effort to make them become reality. Here are a list of features to be added to the Locator in order of most likely to be attempted next...

  • Provide the Locator with the ability to list aircraft at each location by serial number, and perhaps provide a photo gallery or links into airframe documentation service like the Warbird Registry for individual airframes.

If you would like to suggest any additional features for the Locator please feel free to Contact Aerial Visuals.
