    Photos of roadside warbirds and museum collections are most welcome.
    Photos of aircraft as they are currently displayed are great, but photos of airframes in previous markings, with past owners or during a restoration are fantastic as well. You can help document the history of airframes with photos!

    Airframe: Hawker Sea Fury FB.11, s/n TG114 RCN, c/n 41H-609972, c/r N19SF {2}
    Notes: Frank Sanders restoration of this Hawker Sea Fury in 1970 came as the Warbird movement was starting to take hold. Beautifully restored to authentic wartime colors, this Sea Fury was a good race plane as well having been flown to victory in the 1971 running of the California 1000 at Mojave. A beautiful image of this great plane at the 1972 Reno Air Races.

    Airframe: Falck Special, c/n 1, c/r N60089
    Notes: Bill Falck and his wife pose with Bills incomparable Formula One racer Rivets at the 1972 Reno Air Races. Bill and Rivets were successful at Reno in 1966 and 1967. After 1967 Bill would win many races but never again at Reno where he was consistently outclassed by Ray Cote and Shoestring.

    Notes: Also missing from Miss Candace in 1972 were the familiar red stripes on the tail surfaces. They would soon reappear.

    Notes: 1972 saw the reappearance of Cliff Cummins and Miss Candace after his 1970 crash landing in Lemon Valley. It was also when a Bearcat propeller was installed for a short time.

    Airframe: Mahoney 1 Sorceress, c/n 01, c/r N89TT
    Notes: 1972 saw the first Gold Victory in the Sport Biplane class by a true made for racing biplane. Don Beck had purchased Sorceress, the made for racing biplane raced at Reno in 1970 by builder Lee Mahoney. This airplane had been flown to a 2nd place finish in 1971 by Paul Deschamps. In 1972 it was flown to the first of many Gold race victories by Don Beck.

    Notes: 1972 finally saw a highly modified Mustang victorious over Darryl Greenamyers Bearcat Conquest 1. Gunther Balz really seemed to be a somewhat reluctant Unlimited Class pilot. He flew the ex Chuck Hall Mustang to a solid victory over the very fast Conquest 1 being flown that year by Richard Laidley. Al Chute took this photo at Reno in 1972.

    Notes: Phast Phoenix was the name of Lyle Sheltons Bearcat in 1972. This photo was taken by Al Chute during the 1972 Gold Final. You can tell this for sure because the stock canopy borrowed from Bud Fountain is in place after his racing canopy departed the airplane on a Saturday evening test flight. A big shout out to Russell Gann for some Photoshop tips to Phastly improve the quality of this image! Thanks Russ!
