    Event

    Constructed as a F4U-1.

    Markings Applied: F-21

    Crashed.
While on a training exercise for take offs and landings on a carrier operating on Lake Michigan, Ensign Carl H Johnson was waved off to abort the landing so to go around and try again. However, Johnson had lost sight of deck officer and continued the landing. He did throttle up on his own initiative to reject the landing attemp but still caught number seven wire. As a result the tail wheel and hook were ripped from the airframe and the rear fuselage was separated as well but remained loosely connected by the control cables. Johnson was extracted from the cockpit and the airframe remains were pushed over the side of the ship.
