    Constructed as a XR-20.
    Constructed to test the concept of using small ramjets at the tips of the rotor blades (Wikipedia)

    Redesignated as XH-20.
    Re-designated prior to first flight.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n 46-0689.

    May 1947

    Transferred to Rotor Wing Branch, Propeller Laboratory and Rotary Wing Unit, Aircraft Projects Section, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.

    5 May 1947

    First flight.
    The XH-20 made a flight on May 5, 1947, but its fuel was delivered to it through a flexible line from tanks on the ground. (NMUSAF).

    18 September 1947

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 46-0689.

    20 May 1948

    Made its first free flight several feet off the ground while carrying self-contained fuel tanks. (NMUSAF).
