    Constructed as a C-47-DL by Douglas at Long Beach, California, USA.

    11 February 1943

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n 42-32832.

    May 1943

    Transferred to 53rd Troop Carrier Squadron, 61st Troop Carrier Group, 8th Air Force.

    4 May 1943

    Orders received stated: proceed in aircraft as indicated from Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Florida via Marreckech, French Morocco, North Africa to Western Task Force, reporting upon arrival there to the Commanding General, North African Theater of Operations for duty and assignment.

    20 May 1943

    Ferry flight.
    Moved to North Africa via the southern route.

    9 July 1943

    Participated in the very first US paratroop mission of WWII (Operation Husky) during invasion of Sicily.

    11 July 1943

    2nd combat mission of Husky where it was badly damaged.

    September 1943

    Flew one combat mission in support of Operation Avalanche, the invasion of Italy.

    6 June 1944

    Carried 18 paratroopers from the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. Chalk number 41 in the 25th Serial.

    17 September 1944

    Dropping paratroopers of the British 1st Airborne Division at DZ-X on the opening day of Operation Market Garden.

    18 September 1944

    Towed a glider to LZ-T during Operation Market Garden.

    19 September 1944

    Dropping resupplies at DZ-O during Operation Market Garden.

    24 March 1945

    Last paratroop mission of WWII into Germany, operation Varsity.

    Flew hundreds of supply and hospital missions in-between the eight combat missions.

    16 July 1945

    Ferry flight.
    Returned to USA.

    11 September 1945

    Withdrawn from use.
    Placed in storage.

    October 1946

    Transferred to Reconstruction Finance Corporation.

    To Executive Transport Corporation with new c/r NC75412.

    Converted to a DC-3C.

    To General Motors, Inc, Detroit, MI with new c/r N5106.

    11 July 1956

    Certificate of airworthiness for N5106 (DC3C-S1C3G, 9058) issued.

    May 1967

    Assigned civil registration: N5106X

    November 1967

    To Board of Trustees, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL keeping c/r N5106X.
    Installed a 24-passenger configuration.
