    18 August 1976

    Involved in an incident.
Suffered an in-flight fire when turbine exit guide vane came loose on burner light. The fire burned through the aft section, cutting the hydraulic lines for speed brakes, severed the bleed actuation lines for eye-lid actuators. The pilot jettisoned the external fuel tanks and barely managed to bring the aircraft safely back down to Earth. Was repaired and returned to service, but not before having to borrow the tail section of a DC ANG F-105 that was destined for static display. Due to the severity of the accident, the jet was nicknamed Fire Bug.
