Mike Henniger comments (18 September 2014): Jim contacted me by email. He gave me permission to include a portion of his email here: I am planning to swing by on a trip from Alabama to Virginia for Thanksgiving to see the Green Dog. Good aircraft, always got me home. Died on the ramp a few times, but got me home. Wanted to welcome her back to the states, we both made it home. Many times we would talk on the way back from a mission, come on girl, I can see the runway, just a little further, do not quit now. She never quit on me. A low side governor failure once, but flew her back to Vinh Long on manual throttle. Thanks again, from a guy who when he was 22 years old the Army gave him this really cool helicopter to fly. The only catch was they put you in a CAV unit so you got up every morning, strapped it on and went with a bunch of crazy guys out looking for people who wanted to kill us. If we killed them first we got to go home. Not all of us got to go home. |
