    Circa 1953

    Constructed as a KC-97G-23-BO by Boeing at Seattle, Washington, USA.

    Circa 1953

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 52-0898.

    Circa 1957

    Converted to a C-97G.
    Beginning in 1957, as KC-135A replaced KC-97Gs, 132 KC-97Gs had refueling equipment removed by Garrett AiResearch and became C-97G and C-97K for SAC mission support duties. Cargo doors were permanently sealed and passenger seats were installed.

    1977

    To Chanute AFB, IL.
    Probably used as GIA until placing in Chanute Air Park.

    By 1993

    To National Museum of the United States Air Force Loan Program, Wright Field, Dayton, OH.

    Chanute Museum closed.

    2017

    Scrapped.
    The airframe was scrapped with the closure of the museum.

    To Tennessee ANG-134th ARG, Maryville, TN.
    Only the vertical stabilizer survives here. The tail has been painted with the serial number of KC-97L Stratofreighter, s/n 53-0354 USAF c/n 17136 on display at Castle Air Museum as that plane flew with 134th ARW at the base.
