    Circa 1981

    Involved in an incident.
The aircraft was severely damaged during a night landing at Dobbins AFB, GA. The aircraft impacted the runway almost vertically. They landed at over 200 knots. The afterburner petals were crushed, the ventral fin shoved into the aircraft and engine, the fuel dump torn off and the nose gear almost destoryed when the plane slammed down onto the runway. During repairs, the GA ANG swapped the damaged aft section with the good one from F-105G 63-8345 which had been WFU due to wing cracks.

    January 1983

Assigned to Dobbins AFB, GA for storage.
Placed in an inactive status at Dobbins AFB (stored).

To National Museum of the United States Air Force Loan Program, Wright Field, Dayton, OH.

    Photographer: Andy West
Notes: Photograph taken in the evening, after leaving the 2008 Thunder Over Michigan airshow at Ypsilanti.

F-105G 63-8345 is displayed as this jet. It helps that the tail of 8345 was used to make this aircraft flyable after its crash landing at Dobbins in 1981.
