    Damaged.
The accident occurred on a training mission for the 2nd 101st ABN Div Avn Sec. WO1 Coats, the IP, was giving check rides for the unit when the accident occurred. The pilot WO1 Hover had performed a hovering autorotation and was instructed to do another by the IP. As WO1 Hover started to pick the aircraft up to a hover the right skid seemed to stick to the ground. As the aircraft started into an unusual attitude WO1 Coats, the instructor pilot, took the controls. The aircraft did not respond to the controls and the main rotor blades hit the ground. As the blade struck the ground, the aircraft jumped into the air and glided to the right. Full left cyclic was applied and the aircraft did not respond so WO1 Coats initiated a hovering autorotation. Prior to touchdown the aircraft was in a tail low attitude and the tail stinger struck the ground before touchdown. At touchdown the aircraft was moving to the right. From the point of origin to the touchdown spot, the aircraft had moved forward 28 feet and right 48 feet. Following the investigation at the scene of the accident, the aircraft was released to A Company 5th Transportation BN., and slingloaded to their location. The company performed a complete control system check. A material failure was suspected by a complete pilot control system check was made with the assistance of a hydraulic mule. The system was found in good operational condition. There was no evidence of any mechanical failure or binding in the controls.
