    Competed at the National Air Races Cleveland in the Thompson Trophy Reciprocating Division race. The primary pilot was Woodrow Edmondson. Qualified in 12th place with an average speed of 334.079 mph. Raced in the B Feature race. Finished in 7th place with an average speed of 354.395 mph.

Qualified in 8th place with an average speed of 383.475 mph. Started the B Feature race, but did not finish. Left the race on Lap 9 with gear and broken exhaust stacks leading to CO fumes.

    From Joe Baughers site: Attempted piston air speed record, 1952 but the timing equipment on the ground failed to operate properly, invalidating the estimated 510mph run (which would have been a world record for a propeller aircraft at the time).

    Rick Centore comments (30 December 2016): The highly modified Mustang was restored as it looked in 1949. It competed in four Thompson Trophy races and won in 1948.
