The remaining parts of 43-11117 were taken back by by the USAF Museum along with two wrecks recovered from crash sites. This collection of parts formed the basis of a composite static restoration at Malmstrom AFB, MT.

Repair started.
The restoration project changed to a restoration to fly. The work was carried out at Chino. Components from USAAF 44-4181 c/r N9009 were used in the restoration, and the ID of that airframe was adopted.
