    Constructed as a CH-47A.

    Circa 1967

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army with s/n 65-7992.

    By January 1969

    Transferred to Boeing Vertol, PA.
    Aircraft was bailed to Boeing for modifications for the Heavy Lift Helicopter project.

    From January 1969 to May 1970

    Converted to a 347.
    Converted as part of the Heavy Lift Helicopter (HLH) project for testing concepts and components for use in future heavy lift helicopters. Initial modifications included a 110 inch fuselage plug, aft pylon raised 30 inches for better rotor clearance, longer 4-bladed rotors, retractable landing gear, and uprated engines for higher maximum speeds. The aircraft had been updated to the CH-47C configuration by incorporation of all significant engineering changes applicable to the current production CH-47C.

    27 May 1970

    First flight.
    First flight as BV-347 conversion, at the Vertol Divisions Center 3 Flight Test Facility at Eddystone, Pennsylvania.

    From 28 May 1971 to 19 June 1971

    Phase I testing conducted by U.S. Army Aviation Systems Test Activity at the Boeing facility. The basic airframe, rotor, and control system changes were incorporated, and testing was performed.

    From 10 August 1971 to 11 August 1971

    Reevaluation of Phase I testing.

    From Circa September 1971 to 31 March 1972

    Additional modifications of mounting a hydraulicAavariable incidence wing on top center of the fuselage and advanced fly-by-wire control system to integrate the wing and rotors automatically.

    From 3 April 1972 to 11 April 1974

    Phase II testing conducted by U.S. Army Aviation Systems Test Activity at the Boeing facility.

    Later in the program for the Model 301 HLH, the wings were removed and it was fitted with a retractable capsule behind the cockpit to evaluate the load-controlling crewmans station and functions for the rearward-facing load-controller.

    At some point the wing was reattached, possibly just for preservation purposes.
