    1918

    Constructed as a CL.IV (Rol) by Luft-Fahrzeug-Gesellschaft (LFG) at Berlin, Germany.

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Imperial German Air Service.

    1919

    To Paul Strahle.
    World War I flying ace bought it as surplus together with two other CL.IV planes, couple of CL.IV fuselages, a CLS.I fuselage, several sets of wings, engines and many other spare parts. They were to be used in his newly founded aviation company Luftverkehr Strahle.

    To Luftverkehr Strahle with new c/r D-144.

    1919

    By the end of the year these aircraft and spares were confiscated by the Allies. Strahle was not allowed to own them under terms of the Versailles Treaty.

    1920

    Strahle bought them back from the reparation commission for ten times of the original purchase price.

    Modified for passenger and mail transport. Gunner position was separated from the cockpit and fitted with two folding seats.

    Modified and used for aerial photography.

    May 1935

    To Luftverkehr Strahle with new c/r D-IBAO.

    25 September 1938

    Last flight.

    From 1938 to 1982

    Stored. First in Goppingen, where it was badly damaged when hangar collapse in the winter of 1941/42, then in Schorndorf.

    1982

    To Ken Hyde and Stan Parris, Warrenton, VA, USA.
    Purchased from Strahle together with two CL.IV fuselages, a CLS.I fuselage, several sets of wings, engines and some spare parts.

    1984

    To United States Air Force Museum, Dayton, OH, USA.
    Hyde and Parris swapped their entire Halberstadt collection in exchange for six surplus T-28 trainers.

    1989

    To Museum fur Verkehr und Technik, Berlin, Germany.
    USAF Musem exchanged D-IBAO and CLS.I fuselage for complete restoration and rebuilt of two CL.IV fuselages.

    From February 1989 to June 1991

    Restored.
    Work done by Museum fur Verkehr und Technik.

    To Deutsches Technikmuseum (Berlin Technology Museum), Berlin, Berlin.
    Before 1996 known as Museum fur Verkehr und Technik. In 2001 moved to current location.
