    Summarized NTSB narrative from report number MIA68F0014: There were no fatalities. Incident occurred at 11:15 hours. The airframe was destroyed. The engine failed or malfunctioned while cruising. Collided with trees during the landing rollout. There was a partial power loss with the failure of one engine. The emergency circumstances included; forced off-airport landing on land, unusual noise and prop engine vibration. Incident occurred at or near Clermont, GA.

    Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Skip Holm. Qualified in 12th place with an average speed of 393.214 mph. Raced in Heat 2 Gold. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 389.058 mph. Raced in Heat 4A. Finished in 2nd place with an average speed of 392.754 mph. Did not start in Heat 7. Raced in the Consolation race. Finished in 1st place with an average speed of 371.609 mph.

    Crashed.
    The accident occurred at the Van Nuys Airport (VNY) Van Nuys, CA, United States while taking off. The damage was substantial. The private pilot attempted to make his first, solo, take off in the F-51D model aircraft. The aircraft became airborne immediately attained a noise high pitch attitude. The angle of attack was then reduced the aircraft bounced hard off the runway blowing out its right main tire...
