    Constructed as a F3F-2.

    Circa 1938

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Marine Corps with BuNo 0976.

    Circa 1938

    Transferred to Marine Fighting Squadron 2 (VMF-2), NAS San Diego, CA.

    29 August 1940

    Crashed.
    Crashed off coast of Del Mar, CA while on approach to USS Saratoga (CV-3), due to faulty fuel selector valve. The pilot, 1LT Bob Galer, was rescued. Lt Galer continued his flying career, receiving the Medal of Honor during World War II and retiring as a brigadier General.(NNAM).

    Discovered by a Navy submersible at a depth of 1,800 ft.

    5 April 1990

    Recovered.

    October 1993

    To National Naval Aviation Museum, NAS Pensacola, Pensacola, FL.
