    Dates

    Event

    From 1997 to 2000

    Constructed as a Fw-190A-8 (replica).
Initially only assembled as a kit with a ASh 82 radial.

    29 July 1997

To M. Kritzinger, Germany with new c/r D-FWKC.

In the inventory of Military Aviation Museum and Fighter Factory, Virginia Beach Airport, Virginia Beach, VA.

    Circa September 2007

Contracted to Meiermotors GMBH, Freiburg, Baden-Wurttemberg for work on the airframe.
Matthias Dorst comments (3 December 2016): The first one was serial 990002, ex- D-FWCK aC I first saw the kit in autumn 2007 at the old MeierMotors facility in Freiburg / South Germany. Jerry Yagen / Fighter Factory contracted MeierMotors to build up the kit plane. Yagen delivered many original Fw190 parts out of his own collection to MeierMotors.

Converted to a FW 190A-8/M (replica) by MeierMotors at Germany.
The work was not really a conversion, but rather assembly work with reconfiguration. Matthias Dorst comments (3 December 2016): A lot of optimization was done, as diskbrakes, new constructed coolant system with wing intakes, electric flapsystem optimized with modern electronic to avoid unsymmetrical flap-operations (also a wartime problem aC the original flap drive could run from 0 to max degrees without any stopping. In case of failure it could happen that on side runs to full flaps, the over side for ex. Only 10degrees. That could cause big problems. MeierMotors reconstructed the flap-drive in that way: the pilot deploys for ex fullflaps. The flaps drive only 10degrees, but step by step each side. If both flaps are set with 10 degrees, the next 10 degrees are available and so on up to full flaps. In case of failure, the maximum difference between the flaps could be 10 degrees, so no problem for the pilot a. Hard to explain).

    To Military Aviation Museum/Fighter Factory/Training Services Inc/Gerald Yagen, Virginia Beach, VA with new c/r D-FMFW (Fw190 A8-M, 990002).
Matthias Dorst comments (3 December 2016): The optimization work and the amount of wartime material lead to the decision of the German authorities AC LBA - (the same as the FAA) to register the plane as Focke Wulf Fw190 A8-M without the term Flugwerk. All other Flugwerk airframes are registered as Flugwerk Fw190 A8-N. That was an outstanding achievement. The new German reg was D-FMFW (F stands for weight over 2,5 tons up to 5 tons, M stands for MeierMotors, FW of course for FockeWulf).

Contracted to Meiermotors GMBH, Bremgarten Airport, Eschbach, Baden-Wurttemberg for work on the airframe.
The project moved with MeierMotors to Bremgarten.
