The General Dynamics facility maintained the display until the early 70s. Dallas Fort Worth airport was being built on the north side of SH183 and Amon Carter was closing so the B-36 had to move. John Baab formed Peacemaker Foundation and wanted to restore and fly the B-36. This group managed to regenerate the peacemakers systems and had all but one engine running at one time. Mobile oil was going to fuel the plane and plans were underway to fly it to airshows. The USAF got wind of this and said NO. John Baab went away. The AF museum would have allowed a flight to Pima air museum in Tucson but Baab wanted to have a 10 engine warbird. |
