    Constructed as a Spitfire XVI.

    6 July 1945

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the Royal Air Force with s/n RW382.

    14 December 1954

    Struck off Strength/Charge from the Royal Air Force.

    28 November 1955

    Transferred to gate guardian duties at Leconfield as RW729.

    1968

    After being used for static scenes in the movie- Battle of Britain - was placed on a pole at RAF Uxbridge.

    From 1973 to 1988

    After briefly returning to Leconfield - moved back to sit atop a pole at RAF Uxbridge once again.

    Certificate of airworthiness for NX382RW (SPITFIRE MARK XVI, CBAF11581) issued.

    3 June 1998

    Crashed.
    There was one fatality. The accident occurred at Blue Canyon, CA, United States while cruising. The airframe was destroyed. The pilot obtained a preflight weather briefing for a VFR flight across the mountains and stated he would be 30 minutes en route at 1500 feet above ground level. According to witnesses parts of the mountainous terrain were obscured in clouds and fog. The wreckage was located the next day about 5 miles north of Blue Canyon about 5500 feet MSL.
