    Constructed as a F6F-3.

    1955

    Derelict aircraft, stripped at Fergus Falls Airport, MN, and even used for target practice by locals.

    By 1961

    To Joe Dvorak, Fergus Falls, MN.
    Airport manager Dvorak towed it off the airport.

    From 1961 to By 1972

    To John R. Sandberg, Minneapolis, MN.
    Discovered the hulk and acquired it from Fergus Airport manager. Data plate missing as well as information reference BuNo, so aircraft ID is unknown.

    From 1961 to Circa 1963

    Restored as a F6F-3.
    Adopted the ID of USN BuNo 70222. Glenn Chatfield comments: The Commemorative Air Force has adopted the BuNo 70222 but Goodall shows the BuNo as 70387. However, both those aircraft were lost at sea: 70222 in the north Atlantic on 17 October 1944 and 70387 off Philippines on 14 November 1944.

    To John R. Sandberg, Minneapolis, MN with new c/r N1078Z.

    1963

    Ferry flight.
    Moved from Fergus Falls to Minneapolis for a full restoration.

    From 1963 to 1964

    Restored.
    Planned use was for aerial photography and racing. Several modifications were made, including clipped wings.

    25 October 1964

    During a flight from Minneapolis, MN, to Crystal, MN, overturned during a forced landing due to an engine failure. Later repaired and flown to Harlingen,TX and left there, for sale.

    To Confederate Air Force/Lloyd P. Nolan, Harlingen, TX keeping c/r N1078Z.
