Damaged.
While on a rescue and recovery mission for a downed pilot in South Vietnam, HH-3E 65-12784 took damage from enemy fire. The helo was hovering at 150 feet when it took 7 hits from a 7.62MM caliber weapon. It was hit in the passenger cargo area. One crewman was wounded by the impacts. 65-12784 suffered damage to the hydraulic and electrical systems, the landing gear and struture. The helicopter was able to complete all mission objectives and returned to base. |
