    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n 44-61669.

    August 1945

    Transferred to 457th Bomb Squadron, 330th Bomb Group, North Field, Guam.
    Operated with markings: K-15
    Flew combat missions over Japan.

    2 August 1945

    Damaged.
    Accident while taxiing at North Field, Guam.

    To 883rd Bomb Squadron, 500th Bomb Group, Isely Field, Saipan, Mariana Islands.
    Markings added: 4th Marine Division

    Named in tribute to the 4th Marines for their heroic efforts in liberating the Pacific islands of Iwo Jima, Tinian, Saipan, and Roi Namur, and commemorating 2000 B-29s flying off of Iwo Jima.

    Markings Applied: Three Feathers III

    October 1945

    Transferred to 883rd Bomb Squadron, 500th Bomb Group, March Field, CA.
    Operated with markings: Flagship 500
    Renamed for flight back to USA.
