    While assigned to the 335th TFS, 4th TFW, this jet was one of four F-105s and one F-100F the 4th TFW deployed to Edwards AFB, CA, under Operation Fast Wind for its successful attempt to reclaim a world speed record for the United States. BG Joesph H. Moore, 4th TFW commander, flew F-105B 57-5812 at a speed of 1,878.67 KPH over a 100 km closed course to take the speed record back from the French.
